Colour Friday

Hello,


With all the Black Friday messaging flying around, we wanted to share why we won’t be slashing our prices, and why we’re joining Holly Tucker’s Colour Friday campaign instead!

Colour Friday is a campaign run by Holly Tucker and the Holly & Co team (aka the biggest small business cheerleaders around) that encourages the nation to buy their Christmas gifts from creative small businesses. You can find out more about it and how you can support it over on holly.co.


So why aren’t we offering you huge discounts? First and foremost, we price our products as fairly as we can, which means we don’t have huge margins for reductions and will never be able to compete with the big brands offering 50%+ off. This just shows how huge their profit margins are and how, in many cases, we’re not really getting what we pay for.

And then there is the elephant in the room, the environmental impact of Black Friday shopping, and excess at Christmas in general. Black Friday messaging puts pressure on people to buy now and buy more, with the timeframe to save making people spend without thinking. This Christmas we’re committing to buying less and buying better. Being intentional instead of excessive.

And if that isn’t enough, here’s some food for thought from Holly’s Colour Friday campaign:


  1. Carbon emissions generated from Black Friday online sales alone are equivalent to 215 flights from London to Sydney — isn’t it amazing how supporting small and local is such a kind act towards the environment.

  2. 89% of shoppers reported finding Black Friday highly stressful — and with the cost of living crisis having such a negative impact on mental health already, is this really what customers need?

  3. A quarter of Brits surveyed said they regretted their Christmas Black Friday buys — we should all feel proud of the gifts we give so let’s encourage people to choose quality, considered purchases made to last instead.

So, what does this mean for us as a business this week, and on the 25th?

Instead of slashing our prices we’re offering beautiful free gift wrapping, wonderfully friendly customer service and lovingly made products… just like every other day! Because that’s what you get from a small business vs a big business. We care and appreciate every single order.
