CARING FOR YOUR
FRANK + MILS JEWELLERY

We source the absolute best quality we can whilst keeping our jewellery accessible and, given the right care, semi precious jewellery can last a long time. However, there are a few things we recommend you do (or don’t do!) to extend the life of your Frank + Mils pieces.

We like to think of jewellery as the cherry on the cake. As such, it should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off!

Avoid moisture wherever you can. That might mean getting someone else to do the washing up, what a shame! Try not to bring your pieces into contact with any lotions, creams or perfume. And, obviously, remove before showering, swimming and exercise.

If you do get anything on your jewellery, or just feel like it needs a little refresh, use a lint free cloth to give it a gentle wipe.

We recommend removing our jewellery at night and storing it somewhere safe and dry.

Read on for a few more specific tips for each material we use in our range…

OUR TOP TIPS

Gold filled

Our earring hoop bases are gold filled. Gold filled is a process whereby a thicker layer of gold is bonded to a solid base metal, in our case this is brass. It is more durable that gold plated and can last a very long time when cared for properly. Give your gold filled pieces an occasional clean with a jewellery cleaning cloth.

Sterling silver

Sterling silver will last a lifetime when cared for properly. A silver cleaning cloth is essential to keep your pieces shining bright!

Gold vermeil

Gold vermeil is an affordable alternative to solid gold. A sterling silver base is plated with a high quality, 2 micron layer of gold. Avoiding contact with moisture will prolong the gold plating, but when it eventually fades you will be left with a sterling silver piece.

Gold and silver plated

Our gold and silver plated pieces are a high quality, 2 micron layer of gold or silver over a nickle free base metal. Avoiding contact with moisture is the best way to prolong the life of plated pieces. If you do get them wet, make sure you dry them thoroughly.

Glass

We only use opaque glass or colour lined beads and have searched high and low to offer a wide range of colours. The colour of these beads will not fade with wear, but please do store them out of direct sunlight! They’re very durable but, as with anything glass, please handle them with care.

Enamel

Many of our charms feature enamel designs which are beautifully bright and shiny! Remove any dirt or water with a lint free cloth.

Elastic

We use a very high quality elastic and we’ve not yet had a single bracelet break on us. And that’s impressive when you have a toddler hanging off them at every opportunity! Avoid overstretching the elastic to ensure it keeps it’s shape for as long as possible.
